Working in video and animation, Julia Oldham creates narratives that explore scientific and natural phenomena. Part physics lesson, part voyage toward destruction, the starry universe/video installation Oldham presents in How to Escape a Black Hole is immersive and stimulating. As a giant floating head guiding viewers on a meditative journey into an all-encompassing black hole, Oldham replicates YouTube tropes of self-hypnosis and ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) videos that fabricate soothing soundscapes for their listeners.

Historic Huguenot Street, in partnership with The Slave Dwelling Project, invited TMI Project to participate in an overnight stay in one of the site’s historic slave cellars on June 17, 2017. TMI Project writers will share the stories and monologues they crafted following this transformative experience at a performance titled "Reclaiming Our Time" on Saturday, September 16. Terry James, living historian and Board Member of The Slave Dwelling Project, spent the night in a Huguenot Street cellar with writers from TMI Project, an organization which seeks to raise awareness of and inspire people to take action around social justice issues through true storytelling. This was The Slave Dwelling Project’s second overnight at Historic Huguenot Street, which is one of only two New York State dwellings the organization has visited, and the only one in the Hudson Valley. TMI Project focuses the spotlight on stories told by people from marginalized populations, humanizing issues that are often overlooked by mainstream media. Beginning on June 16, six participating writers began a series of 10 workshops, the first of which included an introduction to Historic Huguenot Street and a discussion of expectations for the overnight. Writers also participated in workshops with Mr. James both before and immediately following the experience to explore the significance and purpose of the overnight visit. Through TMI Project’s workshops, participants are offered specific guidance for creating compelling stories, guided writing prompts, brainstorming sessions, feedback during monologue development, and editing of their final works. Their groundbreaking stories will be performed at the Reformed Church of New Paltz at 92 Historic Huguenot Street on Saturday, September 16, at 7:30 pm. General admission is $10, and registration is available at huguenotstreet.org/tmi.

For a week last summer, Bernie noticed a moth flying nearby whenever the Boulet family sat outside, landing on the empty chair where Logan would have sat. Lizzie Edwards A staple of the NYC music scene, Lizzie Edwards seems to have played with everyone! From fronting the Avant-guard jazz ensemble, "Jumping Salty" (with Morgan Kraft, Wes and Madison Rast), to sharing the stage with James Carter and Delmar Brown, she brings nothing but fierce talent. With influences ranging from Paul Butterfield to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lizzie has been a guest at many NYC all-star jams at the Bitter End, and has brought the house down as the lead singer of her side project "Lizzie and the Sinners" (with Charles Roth, Jahn Xavier, Chris Schultz, and Tom Shad) covering gospel greats like Mavis Staples, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Shirley Caesar. Lizzie is a born musician. From age 4 she was trained as a classical pianist and has taken vocal lessons from the renowned Don Lawrence. Her Dad was a constant on the 60′s rock scene, acting as sideman for Chuck Berry and touring with Martha and The Vandellas and the Dave Clark Five. Her grandmother a classical harpsichordist and her grandfather an opera singer, a love and ability for all music truly courses through her veins. With Lizzie and the Makers, she has rocked up and down the East Coast. Belting out original, soulful blues/rock tunes evoking The Black Crowes, Bonnie Raitt and a hint of Led Zeppelin (for good measure), as well as an obscure jazz tune here and there. Greg McMullen Greg describes his music style as "sonic deconstruction on electric/acoustic/resophonic/lap/pedal steel/bass guitars, and other devices…" Trying to bridge the gap between Arto Lindsay and Joe Walsh, Greg has played with Chris Whitley, Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie/The Cure), Meshell Ndegeocello, Trixie Whitley, Twilight Singers, Bonsai, Bentmen, Matt White, Speedbuggy USA, and the Glenn Branca Ensemble. He is supported by Ernie Ball/Music Man, Mesa/Boogie, Voodoo Labs, and Electro-Harmonix. Greg co-writes the majority of The Makers’ songs with Lizzie and they are 8 songs into their second Album, due out in Winter 2016. Brett Bass Brett Bass grew up in Lubbock, TX where he played as many local bars as possible throughout junior high and high school. In 1998 he moved to New York City and quickly began playing regularly on Bleecker street and the lower East Side with a variety of singers, songwriters, bands and pickup bands. Bass has toured the country and world with a diverse list of folks including Bernie Worrell, Regina Spektor, Enrique Iglesias, Chris Barron (the Spin Doctors), Darlene Love, and Gregg Allman. The core of the Makers’ backbone, Brett has quietly been a hammer to the railroad of down home, down hard rhythm section for Lizzie and the Makers from the get go. Bryan Bisordi Bryan began studying with master drummer Michael Carvin, and has since graduated from his school of drumming. He has also studied with Kevin Norton, Bill Goodwin, Amy Putnam, and Scott Ketron. Bryan’s experiences have taken him all over the US, Europe, Japan and the Middle East, led to television and radio appearances on NBC, BBC (UK) and RTE (Ireland), and include performances at Lincoln Center, Terminal 5 and Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, Blue Note Jazz Clubs, and hundreds of other venues in NYC and around the country. Bryan has performed with numerous live acts all over the world. These include Ron Pope, Great Elk and Hesta Prynn. As well as Liptalk, Janita (Engine House Records), Bonsai, Zach Berkman, Nell Bryden (Cooked Vinyl), Gyroscone, Danny Ross (Ammul Records), Big Plastic and Speedbuggy. As an original member of the Makers, Bryan is currently working on his drum set method book, with completion planned for 2015. James Winwood As the newest member of the Makers, James is a native New Yorker. Guitarist, acoustic, and steel guitarist extraordinaire, he has been playing seriously since his teens. He has his BS in Jazz guitar and works as a music teacher and session guitarist. James now has joined the crew of L&TM and has been supplying the Makers with tasteful, exciting and precise treats with a hint of bas-ass hidden underneath. James brings it to the people, showing that style and kicking ass are two things the Makers are all about.
